Tom yum soup recipe

Tom yum soup recipe

Few dishes capture the spirit of Thai cuisine as beautifully as the Tom Yum Soup — a fragrant, fiery, and soul-warming bowl that perfectly balances spice, tang, and comfort. This version, created by Chef Ram Bahadur Budhathoki, the Head Chef of the Chowman chain of restaurants, brings an authentic taste of Thailand to your table with an easy-to-make recipe that highlights the cuisine’s signature depth of flavour.

The soup begins with a base of lemongrass, galangal (Thai ginger), and kaffir lime leaves, that gently infuse the broth with citrusy and herbal aromas. Tender chicken pieces soak up this flavourful stock, while Tom Yum paste, fresh red chillies, and a drizzle of chilli oil add layers of heat and zest. Finally, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice ties everything together, giving the soup its signature bright and tangy finish.

With this recipe, you can recreate the magic of authentic Thai kitchens in your own.

Note:
  • Double the ingredients when cooking for more people to ensure everyone gets a fluffy stack.
  • Swap out eggs for mashed bananas, yogurt, or flaxseed mix if you're vegetarian or allergic to eggs.
  • Use buttermilk instead of regular milk for extra soft and airy pancakes.
  • Let the batter rest for 5-10 minutes before cooking to get fluffier pancakes.
  • Cook on medium-low heat to avoid burning while ensuring even cooking.
  • Add vanilla extract or cinnamon for an extra touch of flavor.
  • Top with fresh fruits, nuts, or honey for a delicious and healthy twist.
