All the new spots in Mumbai that we can't wait to hit ASAP

All the new spots in Mumbai that we can't wait to hit ASAP

The people of Mumbai have always loved eating out, whether on weekdays or weekends, and the city has been generous lately. The city’s newest openings are less about standalone meals and more about spaces conceptualised around a singular idea. Expect spaces that feel cinematic, have menus that tell stories, and concepts that go far beyond just good food and drinks.

Think: a washroom that turns into a dance party straight out of Japan’s karaoke rooms, a teal-and-red space dedicated to doing steamed food perfectly, and an old-school dive bar, revamped.

While restaurants and cafés in Mumbai were beginning to feel like nothing we haven’t tried before,  restaurateurs are now leaning into spaces that not only stand apart but offer a one-of-a-kind experience to diners.

The result is a dining scene that feels more curated than ever, but also one where every new spot is trying to carve out its own niche. And you best believe we are here for it. So if your saved list is looking a little too stale, consider this your update. These are the newest names on the Mumbai’s ever-growing roster.

DRNK Apartment

An offshoot of the cult-favourite DRNK in Bandra, this new Andheri outpost reimagines the brand as a neighbourhood-first space. Moving further from the destination café concept toward the idea of third place spaces, DRNK Apartment is a restaurant, café, matcha haven, and hangout all in one.

The idea is simple but smart: a spot you drop into between errands, post-workout, or long conversations. It’s designed to feel lived-in rather than curated, with a warm, homely atmosphere, and delicious beverages. Hence, the name Apartment. The best part? It taps into a growing shift in Mumbai’s café culture: spaces that prioritise repeat visits over one-time hype. Familiarity is the hook!

On the menu, the highlights are still very much beverage-led. Their signature matchas—served in one too many flavoured variations from marshmallow and tiramisu to crème brûlée and funfetti—remain a favourite, alongside other dessert-like coffees such as the delish s’mores latte, and non-milk offerings.

There’s also a rotation of milkshakes, iced coffees, and speciality drinks, alongside their delicious café bites. Some go-to options include caramel custard French toast, lazy mushroom rigatoni, and house sandos.

And if this unexpected March summer is getting to you far too much, then their newly-launched mango menu should not be missed.

Steam Room

Tucked in Pali Hill, Steam Room is designed to feel like you’ve stepped straight into a Southeast Asian street market—think Bangkok night stalls meets Singapore hawker centres—chock full of colourful, slightly crowded interiors, teal and red accents, and a buzz that hits you the moment you walk in. It’s intentionally loud, packed, and very alive. In simpler words, the kind of place where the energy is as much a part of the experience as the food.

The vibe is all about casual, comfort-first dining. On the menu, the focus is on crowd-pleasing Southeast Asian comfort food; big on flavour, easy to love. Their ramen bowls are a major draw, especially the kimchi ramen, spicy, slightly sweet, and paired with the perfect accompaniments.

Then there are the chilli oil noodles and drunken noodles, both packing bold, punchy flavours and a mix of Chinese and Japanese staples. These include rice bowls, noodle dishes, and small plates designed for sharing—and of course, as the name suggests, plenty of wontons, dumplings, and momo to go around.

And then there’s the showstopper: dessert. The creamy vanilla soft serve paired with honey toast is exactly the kind of playful, slightly over-the-top, and indulgent dessert we love. Not to mention, it’s the best of both worlds: hot and cold all at the same time!

Complete with picturesque, Instagrammable interiors and a striking colour palette, this might just become your next fav Asian hotspot.

The Rameshwaram Cafe

If there’s one opening in Mumbai that’s being driven purely by hype, queues, and cult fandom, it’s The Rameshwaram Cafe. Originally from Bengaluru, the brand has built a near-legendary reputation for turning something as simple as a South Indian tiffin into a cultural phenomenon. And now, its Mumbai debut at Churchgate has got the city in a chokehold.

What makes the concept stand out is its darshini-style dining, a format rooted in South India’s quick-service culture. The ground floor sticks to this original model: you grab a token, pick up your food, and eat standing, fast, and fuss-free. But in Mumbai, the folks behind the space have also introduced a twist. The first floor houses a more relaxed, seated dining space to address the city’s need for comfort while dining.

The vibe is exactly what you’d expect from a place that thrives on volume. It’s busy, high-energy, and constantly buzzing. As for the food, the ghee podi idli is easily one of the biggest draws: soft idlis drenched in ghee and tossed in spiced chutney powder. The benne (butter) masala dosa and open butter masala dosa lean are as indulgent as the word gets, while staples like pongal, bisi bele bath, and curd rice bring in that comforting, everyday South Indian feel. Many also rave about Rameshwaram’s filter coffee—a non-negotiable order.

Piccolino – Italian Taproom

Designed as an all-day Italian taproom, Piccolino is all about the simple, easy, relaxed charm of a neighbourhood spot you’d stumble into on a European street. With warm lighting, comfy seating, and an atmosphere that’s all about smooth drinks and conversations that drag on—La Dolce Vita, quite literally.

The concept revolves around everyday Italian dining, done well. Everything is made from scratch: fresh pasta is rolled daily, pizza dough is fermented for 24 hours, and sauces and breads are made in-house. Add to that a strong beverage programme, with 14 craft beers, ciders, and meads on tap, and a global wine list, and you get a space that doubles as both a casual dining spot and a taproom perfect for Friday nights.

On the menu, highlights include pesto burrata pizza, stuffed ravioli with pesto calabrese, Parmesan garlic knots, Picco crisps, and dishes like spinach & corn croccante. And of course, to top off a perfect Italian meal, you must end with a classic tiramisu—because some things really don’t need reinventing.

Public Beer Hall & Snack Bar

Versova’s busiest street just welcomed a new bar to its lineup, in place of a beloved OG spot: Jamjar Diner. However, not to worry: this brand-new bar is an ode to nostalgia and the city’s much-loved dive bar culture.

We love a new, old-school bar! (Credits: @public.beerhall)

With no room for reservations, Public is a laid-back neighbourhood hangout that draws inspiration from classic Indian beer halls, gymkhanas, and Irani cafes, which have been central to the city’s going-out culture for decades. Designed and conceptualised by the same team behind Jamjar—Anup Gandhi, Sahil, and Nevil Timbadia—this bar is equal parts OG and a whiff of contemporary.

Complete with endless pitchers of beer, neat pours, and no-nonsense mixes, the menu at Public is quite the opposite of curated. With tables running out first week onwards, some of the favourite things that are up for grabs here include everything you’ve ever loved. From chakli schezwan, cheese chilli toasts, and kheema-stuffed samosas to mutton rassa pav, wai wai chaat, and kebabs, the space experiments with a lot, yet keeps the spirit of nostalgia static. Think of it as something that hits the perfect balance between today’s high-end cocktail bars and yesterday’s old-school ones.

For those craving the touch of Bombay without hauling all the way to SoBo, this is where you need to be!

Address: 7A-7B, Aram Nagar Part 2, Machlimar, Versova, Andheri West, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400061

Mokaii (2.0)

Mokaii, among Mumbai’s most-loved and revered cafes, has finally made its grand return, moving from its rather tiny location in Chapel Road to a spacier, bigger one in Pali Hill. Reimagined, the space has taken on an avatar that’s sleeker, sharper, and extremely design-forward. Inside, each corner is picture-perfect, the washroom offers a dance party straight from the Karaoke rooms of Japan, and the building looks like one we might have pulled out of your favourite anime.

The revamp extends to the menu as well, which maintains the best of the cafe’s offerings alongside new starrers. Some of the go-to orders include the savoury San Sebastian cheesecake, fried chicken burger with hot honey, and chilli garlic noodles. On the drinks front, there’s far too much to get through (considering that Mokaii is a Mumbai favourite for their cafe programme). However, some of the stars of the show include the Tiramisu Latte (and Milo Tiramisu), Coconut Malai Cold Brew, and Blueberry Matcha.

Address: 600, 601, 602, Hill Crest Building, Ground Floor, Ambedkar Road, Pali Naka, Bandra West, Mumbai, 400050

Timings: Monday to Sunday (8:30 am to 11:30 am)

Price for two: INR 2,500
