The Cherrapunji Eastern Craft Gin, which won the prestigious Double Gold Medal at the consumer-judged 2025 Spirits International Prestige (SIP) Awards held in California, USA, is placing Meghalaya and northeast India on the global spirits map.
Prepared using harvested rainwater from Mawsynram in Cherrapunji (the wettest place on Earth) and distilled in Meghalaya by Mayukh Hazarika’s Raincheck Earth Co., the gin allows you to sip the rainiest place of India in a stainless steel bottle that can be recycled and reused.
What Makes The Award Special?
The award is unlike any other, since it places the gin among the top 2 per cent of the 1,200 gins from 60+ countries that had applied for the Double Gold medal. Evaluations are done through double blind tastings by over 300 drinkers.
A spirit qualifies for the award only after receiving a unanimous nod and top rating from the entire panel of consumers.
The SIP Awards were founded in 2008 in Irvine, California and are the only international spirits contest where real consumers and customers evaluate the spirit.
About Cherrapunji Eastern Craft Gin
The Cherrapunji Eastern Craft gin uses ingredients from across North-east India— orange peel sourced from GI-tagged Khadi Mandarin of Meghalaya, tea from Lushai Hills, kaji from the Assam Valley, and pepper that is grown in Meghalaya.
The colourful, recyclable stainless steel bottle of the Cherrapunji Eastern Craft gin also reflects life in Cherrapunji. It consists of images of a red panda, bamboo forests, and a colonial-era Bedford bus.
The gin, with its citrus-forward, smoky, and earthy profile, is a premium, small-batch spirit that is an ode to Meghalaya and North-east India. It is available in Shillong, Cherrapunji, and Guwahati.
