Have you seen one of those Deadpool t-shirts that read, “Will kill for tacos”? I own one of those, too. Not owing it to my love for Deadpool, but for our shared love for tacos. My love for taco blossomed after my grandmother spent months perfecting the dish after undertaking a food tour during her travels to Mexico city. Ever since, the goal has been to try Mexican food joints across the city and eventually settle for one. Delhi’s food scene is one that is always evolving and trying to outgrow itself. There are many spots that are doing a great job with tacos and worth trying if you are an enthusiast.  

Here’s a roundup of places where you can experience Mexican flavours at their best in Delhi.

Garnitas

One Mexican spot in Delhi that the internet is currently loving is Garnitas in Meherchand Market. Garnitas is a neighbourhood eatery where you can step in without worrying about what you are wearing. The only condition is the love for Mexican food. Their tacos section is wide and impressive.

Some highlights include the Chipotle mushroom, prawn, and Jack cheese tacos, as well as the lamb birria tacos. The macha chicken tacos and soy corn carne are some other diner favourites. Their quesadillas, rice bowls, and baked nachos are other reasons why diners return to the restaurant. Delhi’s first taqueria-cum-pizzeria, Bomba, is another spot you must visit whenever you’re craving good tacos. The roster offers both vegetarian and non-vegetarian soft-shell tacos, served with pico de gallo and salsa verde on the side. Highlights from their vegetarian tacos include the charred corn and spiced jackfruit barbacoa tacos.

From the non-vegetarian section, go for the grilled tenderloin, fried chicken, and vodka-battered fish tacos. For a sweet close to the meal, opt for the baked crème brûlée or the indulgent chocolate fudge cake.

Bringing the warmth of Latin American flavours to the capital is Mestizo in Vasant Vihar’s Priya Market. The roster features an eclectic mix of Mexican, Peruvian, Argentinian, Brazilian, Chilean, and Spanish flavours.

Flipping through the menu can overwhelm you, given the variety. From the tacos section, which is neatly divided into meat, fish, and vegetarian sections, you must choose a chicken al pastor taco, a Baja fish taco, or a grilled prawn taco. If you are a vegetarian, then go for their sweet potato or mushroom taco.

Other highlights from their menu include enchiladas, the classic burrito bowl, and Norwegian salmon nikkei. The burgers at Mestizo are quite talked about, too. Take our recommendations and go for their fried chicken burger or green Chile smash burger.
