’Tis the season for pink, pretty, perfectly sweet treats—here are all the ones you need to try ASAP

The winter season is finally pulling in. And while we barely feel a hint of that chilly goodness here, in Mumbai’s humid, coastal corridors, we sure do get to try the best of this season’s delicacies, one dessert at a time. And the best part about the winter? The strawberries, of course!

Perfectly plump, dangerously red, and hypnotically sweet, strawberry desserts are, for me, the best dolce that the culinary world has to offer. The sourness of the strawberry is balanced so perfectly by the gooey sweetness of chocolate or of cake—it’s the most perfect sweet treat to end, start or just accompany your day. Their sheer range baffles me: from simply chocolate-covered strawberries and strawberry cream, to 50 different kinds of cakes with strawberry variants and puddings and parfaits, it’s the best, most versatile accompaniment to every dessert, in my opinion. And if there’s one thing Mumbai knows how to do well, it’s celebrate a season through food. Every winter, the city’s bakeries, cafés, and homegrown dessert brands go into full strawberry overdrive—menus turn pink, displays are stacked high with glossy tarts, and pastry chefs start dreaming up creations that make even the simplest strawberry sweet treat all fancy and festive.

This year is no different. From Bandra’s cult patisseries to SoBo’s old-school favourites and even the newly famous cloud bakeries that sell out before noon, everyone seems to be whipping, layering, glazing, and piping strawberries into something spectacular. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic shortcake, a strawberry-loaded croissant, London’s popular chocolate-covered strawberries, or one of those towering entremets that deserve their own photoshoot, there’s something waiting for everyone.

So, in honour of Mumbai’s only kind of winter—one that comes not through the weather but through the food—here’s a guide to all the must-try strawberry desserts in the city right at the moment.

Subko Coffee Roasters

Titled ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’, Subko’s special strawberry menu has finally hit the shelves at all their Mumbai outposts, and we cannot wait to get our dessert-hungry hands (and mouths) on them. Otherwise renowned for their specially brewed, artisanal coffee, Subko’s bakery menu is also one that is widely loved and sought after. And so, the strawberry specials were unavoidable.

This is their fourth year doing this menu, and if that isn’t enough proof of just how mouth-watering it actually is, wait till you hear everything that’s up for grabs. A collection of their greatest hits over the past few years, made with the season’s juiciest strawbs from Mahabaleshwar, Maharashtra, they’ve come up with five jaw-dropping strawberry-based desserts and drinks that will quench all the red-coloured thirst in all of you. My fav among all of these is the ‘Strawb Gluttony’, a strawberry-based take on French toast, made with Subko’s signature Brokkaido slice stuffed with housemade strawberry jam and topped with vanilla whipped cream, multifloral honey, and the freshest of Mahabaleshwar strawberries. Other things on the menu include the ‘Strawbs & Cream,’ the strawberry smoothie bowl, ‘Strawbs & Cream flat white, ’ and the ‘Strawb Mirchi Tonic.’

Each sounds more inviting than the former—so don’t wait, just drive to your nearest Subko, and dig in!

Magnolia Bakery

Worshipping and paying heed to the official start of the strawberry season, everyone’s go-to dessert stopover has also released its delectable strawberry special: Magnolia Bakery’s classic strawberry cheesecake.

A rendition of the iconic New York cheesecake—of course, with a delish strawberry compote on top—the dessert has a crunchy, biscuity bottom layer, a rich vanilla-bean cheesecake base (smooth, dense, and slightly tangy), topped with a glossy layer of strawberry filling that comes across as sweet and slightly tart all at once. It’s the best of a dessert—all in one. The cheesecake feels homey yet refined, like it was baked in a New York bakehouse and transported straight into your dessert-loving heart. The strawberry compote isn’t cloying; instead, it adds a fruit-forward lift that balances the creamy weight of the cheesecake.

One bite and you’ll understand why Magnolia is such a household name for all things sweet and delicious. Other than the cheesecake, they do the best buttercream cakes, the infamous tres leches, puddings and even icecreams. And yes, they stay open late, for all those midnight cravings. So, don’t think before you eat, and don’t walk; run to Bandra!

Dessert Therapy

If the name isn’t enough proof, let me spell it out for you—Dessert Therapy is a dessert lover’s paradise. Each dish here is less dessert and more meal, enough to fill your tummy (and fulfil your cravings) for the whole day or even week. They do the best of everything in all of the city—cheesecakes, ice cream sundaes, pancakes, waffles, and cakes. You imagine it, and it’s there, on your plate!

Quite literally therapy on a plate! (Credits: @desserttherapy)

My personal favourite is their strawberry Nutella cheesecake—name a better combo, I dare you. Strawberry and Nutella pair together like peas in a pod, and Dessert Therapy does this combination in many different renditions. Another one of their seasonal strawberry offerings (yes, strawberry season) includes highlights like the almond praline & strawberries dark chocolate cake (made with imported European strawberries), as well as Burnt butter toasts in various strawberry-paired variations. And if you’re feeling adventurous, their menu goes well beyond strawberries: think classics like tiramisu, Nutella Ferrero cheesecake, and even churro chips with chocolate dips.  They also make great sweet + drink combos—like their coffees, hot & cold chocolates, and shakes.

Like I said, it’s a dessert lover’s ultimate dream, all in one. It’s therapy—for the soul and the tummy!

Deliciae by Bunty Mahajan

Imagine the best of cakes and desserts in all of the city—Deliciae by Bunty Mahajan is even better. Their menu is made with the best, most premium ingredients in all of town, and the taste stands as proof of just how good it actually is. Even the Ambanis swear by Bunty Mahajan’s desserts—need we say more?

As far as strawberries are concerned, they’ve got range. Their menu is as versatile as a celebration, offering gourmet cakes, desserts, custom 3D cakes, and an indulgent “DELforME” dessert range ideal for gifting or treating yourself. Among their signature creations are the rich chocolate strawberry cake, the strawberry biscoff cheesecake, the strawberry tres leches, the classic berry cheesecake, and more. A fascinating new addition to their roaster is the kunafa strawberry Biscoff cheesecake—I’m sure it’s a hundred times better than it sounds, and I cannot wait to try it! Each of their desserts tastes more decadent and indulgent than anything I’ve ever tasted before—nothing, absolutely nothing fails. The brand has even won the Times Food Award for Best Patisserie in Mumbai for six years (2020–2025), which obviously speaks volumes about its consistent quality and deep connection with Bombay’s dessert lovers.

It’s one of the best cake shops in all of town—your next birthday order, sorted!

Mahabi Patisserie Gelato

Mahabi Patisserie is a strawberry lover’s wonderland, starting every winter season. It isn’t just your run-of-the-mill patisserie; it’s a cosy, creative bakery-gelato hybrid that leans knee-deep into seasonal sweetness when strawberries come calling.

Their strawberry chocolate gelato is a classic for a reason: rich, creamy gelato that blends the deep notes of Belgian chocolate with juicy, tart strawberry bits—a texture play that feels lush and comforting. But if you’re craving something more bakery than ice cream, Mahabi’s matcha strawberry tres leches cake is a standout: vanilla sponge soaked in milk, lightly matcha-infused, and crowned with a strawberry compote and chopped strawberries. And for a lighter, flakier take, their strawberry fresh cream croissant is a delicate, buttery, and strawberry-filled dream. However, the cherry—or shall I say, strawberry?— on top is most definitely their chocolate-covered strawberry cups, in the classic Borough Market style. It’s rich, fruity, and just sweet enough, perfect for when you’re craving a no-nonsense strawberry-filled dessert.

For a strawberry lover, this place is a quaint, delicious shrine, full of everything good in the world!
