An enduring symbol of Mussoorie’s social and culinary scene, The Tavern Bar & Restaurant—nestled along the bustling Mall Road—has unveiled a refreshed menu that bridges its storied past with contemporary tastes. Established in 1972, The Tavern has long stood as a cornerstone of the hill station’s vibrant nightlife, known for introducing pub culture to the Queen of Hills.

Over the decades, its wooden-beamed interiors, vintage décor, and dimly lit corners have hosted everyone from Bollywood stars to mountain wanderers. Now, as it steps into a new chapter, The Tavern aims to capture the spirit of its golden years while catering to evolving palates.

“The Tavern, even for me, has always been more than just a restaurant. It has been intertwined in the cultural memory of Mussoorie,” said Rajat Kapur from The Tavern Management. “With this relaunch, we celebrate dishes that people have cherished for decades while introducing creations that reflect today’s evolving tastes.”

What’s New On The Menu?

The updated menu is a tribute to The Tavern’s classics—think the comforting Mikki Takki Soup and its legendary Butter Chicken—while weaving in modern influences. Drawing inspiration from both Himalayan traditions and international cuisines, the menu includes regional gems like Kandali Jhangora Kofta and Timmuri Chicken Tikka, crafted with local grains, mountain herbs, and spices. For those seeking global flavours, there’s the Gochujang Papaya Salad, Korean Stir-Fried Chicken, and Massaman Lamb Curry, each reinterpreted with The Tavern’s signature flair.

At its heart, The Tavern continues to offer an experience that’s as much about atmosphere as it is about food. Its rustic charm—complete with leather seating, old-English pub aesthetics, and warm lighting—creates an inviting space that feels timeless. Whether you’re here for a family dinner, live music, or a round of karaoke, The Tavern remains a place where every meal is a celebration.

“When Tavern first opened its doors, it introduced pub culture to the quiet hill town,” said Sandeep Sahni, also from The Tavern Management. “Over the years, its walls have witnessed film stars, fashion shows, and live music that gave Mussoorie its own rhythm. Its tagline, ‘A Belly Full of Fun,’ became more than a promise—it became an experience.”

With its reimagined menu, The Tavern ushers in a new era—one that honours its legacy while looking forward. It remains, as ever, a beloved meeting point for locals and travellers alike, offering soulful food, hearty drinks, and that unmistakable Mussoorie magic.
