The Taj Surajkund Resort & Spa in Delhi NCR has finally unveiled the Golden Dragon, one of IHCL’s most recognised and longstanding Chinese dining destinations. Notably, this move also marks the iconic restaurant’s official debut in North India. Helmed by Executive Chef Anuj Mathur alongside Chef Tong Sing Wah from Hong Kong, Golden Dragon has long been known for its sought-after Sichuan and Cantonese offerings, and its arrival at the recently reimagined Taj Surajkund brings its legacy to the capital in a fresh resort-style setting.

The launch forms part of Taj Surajkund’s ongoing transformation journey, aimed at strengthening its culinary and destination-led experiences. First introduced in 1973 at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, Golden Dragon’s kitchen combines time-honoured recipes and techniques, emphasising the preservation of Chinese culinary traditions while adapting to contemporary dining preferences with equal thought and care.

With this opening, Golden Dragon introduces guests in Delhi NCR to a more elevated dining destination dedicated entirely to authentic Chinese cooking and an immersive cultural experience.

A Menu Spanning Sichuan and Cantonese Traditions

At the heart of Golden Dragon is its curated menu, which also shows why the restaurant has stood the test of time and won people’s hearts over so many decades. Among its most loved offerings are the dim sums, wok-tossed dishes, soups, signature mains, desserts, and an elegantly designed tea programme.

Signature dishes include the Mushroom Cream Cheese Dumpling, Flaky Radish Dumpling, and Water-Poached Chicken Dumplings with Spicy Garlic Sauce. Other than that, there are also small plates like Beijing Onion Cake, Golden Fried Prawns, Song of the Dragon Chicken, and Sichuan Chilli Baby Corn.

There’s a lot of delicious Chinese fare up for grabs.

The menu also makes space for mains such as Beijing Duck, Steamed Sea Bass with Ginger, Mala Tofu, Broccoli, Pak-choi and Asparagus with Five Spice Honey, and Golden Dragon’s Famous Three Flavour Noodles. Desserts, including Mango Pudding and Darsaan, complete the dining experience on a sweet, satisfying note.

According to the Executive Chef, Anuj Mathur, Golden Dragon’s culinary philosophy remains grounded in Chinese cooking traditions.

“Golden Dragon has always been celebrated for the depth of its flavours, thoughtful craftsmanship and the elegance of Chinese cooking traditions. Our kitchen draws from time-honoured techniques such as wok hei, delicate broths and precise steaming, while presenting dishes that feel layered, balanced and graceful. We look forward to bringing the spirit of Sichuan and Cantonese cooking to guests through Golden Dragon,” he said.

Interiors Inspired by Classical Oriental Design

The interiors at Golden Dragon draw on classical Oriental aesthetics, which is a go-to in Chinese tradition, highlighting gold and green accents and certain plum blossom motifs. The overall design language leans contemporary.

The space is further enhanced by Guohua, a traditional Chinese art form that combines elements of painting, poetry, calligraphy, and seal engraving to produce striking visual imagery. Artworks such as Renwu Hua, Shanshui Along the River, The Lantern Bearer’s Mountain Journey, Shadows of the Golden Dragon, and Path to Longevity add a sense of cultural ambience to the overall dining experience.

For those looking, the restaurant also offers private dining rooms that work as an intimate setting for celebrations and special occasions.
