Because life’s too short for bad pizza!
Let’s be honest, we all take our pizza as seriously as Joey, don’t we? As the popular ‘Friends’ adage goes, “Joey loves pizza,” and so does most of this city. But we take our pizza very, very seriously. For pizza to be good, it must be baked to the T, the cheese should be perfectly smooth, the bread need not be too thick or too thin, and the toppings must complement each other like peas in a pod. The perfect pizza, I promise, is extremely difficult to get right. Why? Well, this doughy comfort dish is counted among some of the most popular foods, no matter what part of the world you’re in—and every nook and cranny of this city is baking its own iteration of this doughy goodness. It’s gotta be tough to perfect. Nothing good comes that easily!
And that’s exactly why the hunt for the perfect pizza in Mumbai feels a bit like a citywide treasure hunt. For every great slice you stumble upon, five others miss the mark by a mile—too doughy, too floppy, too dry, too experimental for their own good. Mumbai has range, there’s no doubt, but abundance doesn’t always equal excellence. Still, when a pizzeria does get it right? It’s magic.
Whether you’re a purist chasing a classic margherita or someone who loves a good chilli-oil-drenched, burrata-crowned monster of a pie, we’ve rounded up the spots that are truly worth your love (and your appetite). Read on for some of the best ‘za recommendations in all of town.
Let the great pizza debate begin!
If you’re looking for no-nonsense, authentically Italian (with an Indian twist, of course), and delicious pizza, this chain is where to be. It consistently comes recommended by Mumbaikers across the city, especially for the wide variety in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian pizzas. But why I love it is solely because of the fact that this spot taught us that pizza can be both comforting AND bougie and authentic without trying too hard.

The interiors offer that signature pizzeria look, with a black-and-white theme all around, so that you know better than to focus on anything but the food, once inside. The dough here is consistently light, airy, and perfectly blistered—like it somehow spent the perfect amount of time in the oven. My personal favourites include their American hottest, which remains a rite of passage for anyone who claims they can handle heat, while the Padana, with its goat’s cheese and caramelised onions, is basically a love letter in pizza form. It’s just sweet and just savoury enough—I especially love it because it’s one of the most unique pizzas I’ve tried. Their calabrese chicken, a rectangular pizza, is also a must-try for meat lovers. I also really love their crispy hot chicken wings, as well as a special wine slushie they do on the drinks menu. Despite multiple outlets across the city, each one stands true to its name, maintaining taste, quality, and just, goodness. A word of advice: do yourselves a favour and top up each of your pizza slices with a drizzle of both the chilli oil and the garlic oil—it’s life-changing, trust me.
For me, Pizza Express is that steady, reliable joint that shows up every time and still manages to impress you with how good it is. When visiting, go hungry, or go home!

Most of the city swears by this spot, ever since 1968—I love it especially for all the lore. It initially opened in the late 60s as a restaurant under the name ‘Talk of the Town’. What made it distinct was that it was one of the first restaurants to come up as a standalone spot, aka it wasn’t located inside the premises of a hotel. This later transformed into ‘Jazz By The Bay’ in 1986, owing to the city’s shared love for jazz. And surprise, surprise! The jazz spot became extremely successful, but soon had another pivotal development when it diversified into other genres, including rock, blues, and country. The only logical next step? They added a ‘Not Just’ to the restaurant’s title. Mumbai then had a ‘Not Just Jazz By The Bay’ that hosted musical nights full of food and merrymaking. And finally, in 2010, it changed to the ‘Pizza By The Bay’ all of us Mumbaikers know and love. Another popular adage refers to this spot being infamous for having first introduced pizza to the city. Basically, it’s a restaurant with LOTS of history (and really, really good pizzas).

If the name doesn’t hint at it enough, Pizza By The Bay is popular for serving some of the most delish pizzas in the city, right before Marine Drive—yes, it’s pizza, served with a good view. I love their flaming margherita pizza that’s infused with vodka for a slightly pungent twist, the Bombay masala pizza with its spicy kick, and the chicken trio pizza with three varieties of chicken for meat lovers. Many also rave about their garlic bread and bolognese pasta, as well as their very large dessert menu. My personal favourite is the cheesecakes. And if breakfast is more your vibe, you’ve lucked out because Pizza By The Bay also does one of the most popular breakfast menus in all of Mumbai. The bonus? Their Sunday Brunch, of course!
Go a little late at night, and right after devouring your meal, walk along the Marine Drive to feel like a main character right out of your fav Bollywood films (with some good ol’ manifestation music in the background).

Walk in and you’ll be transported to a diner in New York City, and trust us, you won’t want to leave. Having come to Mumbai from Goa, one would expect a more coastal-themed, beachier setting, but it wouldn’t be much of an exaggeration to say that SAZ Bombay is quite the opposite. With its navy blue and gold interiors, it’s just chic and just comfy enough. Everything is jewel-toned, and we are here for it. The best part? The pizzas, obviously.

Their pizzas are a sweet mix of classic American-Italian flavours, and some of the menu cuts are actually worth bragging about. Case in point: the mushroom cream & truffle pizza, one of SAZ’s signature pizzas. It has a 00′-flour crust, bechamel, assorted mushrooms, caramelised onions, goat cheese, and yes, a generous drizzle of truffle oil that makes the first bite feel like something right out of a food dream (my mouth is watering just thinking about it). For pepperoni lovers, their classic pork pepperoni pizza is most reliable. With tomato passata, heaps of mozzarella, and soft and charred pepperoni, it’s one of my favs on the menu. For our vegetarian friends, their burrata pizza is one of the best, topped with roasted cherry tomatoes, arugula, and that creamy burrata that feels like a pillow of cheese. They also do very authentic pasta, and some very, very yummy cocktails to go with your meal.

Bathed in Italian goodness, walk into CinCin, and the instant Amalfi Coast-ification of the world around you will put you in vacation mode. It’s lemon-y, yellow, and so, so cute, but what’s better is, of course, their authentic Italian pizzas. And while this piece is specifically about pizzas and pizzas only, a special shoutout to their pastas because they stop time, quite literally. ‘CinCin’ quite literally translates into ‘cheers’—god knows you’ll be doing that more than a couple of times when you visit this Italian fav.

Their Napoli-style wood-fired pies have that perfect thin crust with a slight char, while the toppings might be even better. My recommendation: the Zucca pizza, topped with roasted pumpkin, pickled onions, capers, and silky fior di latte. Then there’s the funghi e tartufo, made with a porcini and truffle cream that’s subtle but tastes luxurious. It’s very Italian, very authentic, and very, very delish. The diavola pizza brings on spicy pepperoni and red chilli heat, while the burrata pizza, with creamy burrata melting over vine-ripened tomatoes and garlic, turns your slice into a moment of soft, cheesy bliss. I could go on listing forever, so get up and get yourself to BKC ASAP!

If the name isn’t enough to speak for itself, let me pen it out for you—it’s one of the best margherita pizzas in town.

feels like a hidden corner of Naples tucked into suburban Mumbai—warm, low-lit, and very serious about their ‘za game. The menu is refreshingly simple. Nothing gimmicky, just made with lots and lots of love (and authentic ingredients). The classic margherita comes highly recommended, for obvious reasons. Made with fresh San Marzano–style tomato sauce, creamy buffalo mozzarella, and torn basil, all is spread thin on a slightly charred, airy crust that literally folds in your hand without collapsing. Then there’s the gourmet pepperoni pizza, which ups the game for non-vegetarian lovers—imported pepperoni, garlic, jalapeños, and a sesame-crusted base give it a textured, slightly edgy bite. For something more playful, the tingling taste buds pizza combines jalapeños, mixed peppers, mushrooms, garlic, and onions so that each bite feels like a little spicy surprise party. Especially for vegetarians, the pesto veg pizza combines pesto, premium mozzarella, olives, mixed peppers, and onions into a delicious balance.
Don’t waste time thinking, visit soon!
