Discover the difference between cold brew and nitro coffee—two chilled favourites with smooth textures, bold flavours, and unique brewing styles gaining popularity across Delhi NCR.

Cold brew Coffee

Coffee means different things to different people. For some, it’s a peaceful moment they carve out in a busy day, with a warm cup to relax while reading a book. For others, it’s like a wake-up call, the drink that gets them out of bed and through early mornings. With innumerable varieties and combinations, there are countless ways to enjoy coffee. From creamy lattes to strong expressos, sweet iced coffees to rich dark brews, there’s magic in every cup. The magic of cold coffee is unmatched—loved for its refreshing kick and growing popularity among youngsters. If you’re a cold coffee enthusiast, you’ve likely encountered cold brew and nitro coffee. Let’s find out what sets them apart.

Cold Brew and Nitro Coffee: What’s the difference?

There are subtle differences between these two types of coffee, but the most evident one is the texture. Nitro coffee gets its name from the infusion of nitrogen gas, but it is sometimes mistakenly referred to as cold brew only. The brewing method involves being pressurised with nitrogen gas, forming nitrogen bubbles, giving it a foamy, velvety texture. On the contrary, regular cold brew coffee is typically smooth with a slightly sweeter taste due to its long steeping process.

How’s it Made?

Regular cold brew is made by steeping coarse-ground coffee beans in cold water for an extended period, around twelve to twenty-four hours. This slow extraction process creates a coffee concentrate that is later diluted with water or milk, according to personal preference. While the preparation of Nitro cold brew is fascinating, it begins as regular cold brew concentrate, but what sets it apart is the nitrogen infusion process. The cold brew is then stored in a keg and pressurised with nitrogen gas, creating tiny bubbles and a foamy texture.

Caffeine Level And Flavour Profiles

Cold brew is made with cold water, so it is sweeter in taste and milder in caffeine intensity, which makes it less acidic. Its mellow flavour profile has a more nuanced flavouring, enhancing the coffee experience. While the aroma and flavours are milder than hot coffee, cold brews retain the flavours much longer than hot coffee stored in a refrigerator. The caffeine measure is high because the absence of heat makes the extraction slower.

Nitro Coffee
Nitro coffee is cold brew infused with nitrogen for a creamy, fizzy kick

The bubbly, fizzy version of cold brew, Nitro cold brew coffee, is a modern innovation that tastes like a rich, creamy sip with natural sweetness that is less acidic.  Offering a unique drinking experience, Nitro cold brew feels like a frothy drink and is visually appealing with cascading bubbles and creamy foam to top up the whole experience
